Teacher Interview
When asking “Louise” for an interview, she seemed quite thrilled that I thought of her. Louise is a middle school teacher and is quite ecstatic about using technology in the classroom. The technology available to her was limited until she “became the Department Chari of Sciences for the school,” she said winking at me. She told me that she made sure whoever put in a request for a piece of equipment that the school did not have, she would work hard to try and get it for them. When asked what technology was available to her classroom, her list was quite short. A teacher computer and a projector was all she had until she recently purchased a LED suspended projector, Flex Cam, and a Pupil Cam, which she said she bought because she was told that the students would not break or steal the parts of the microscope. “Ha!” She shouted sarcastically. Needless to say, she was recently proved to be wrong. Louise gets lost in thought for a second and states, “What I would really like to have is a Whiteboard, not this ugly old chalkboard.” Most people would be shocked to learn that the school in which she was located had not upgraded to whiteboard. Louise said that she went to Home Depot and with her own funds bought some for her students so that they had something to write on. She also stated that she would love to have an Elmo, a clicker, a jeopardy game, and of course, what every teacher would love to have, a classroom set of laptops. When asked how she thought she could increase the amount of technology integrated in the classroom, she replied that she wished she had had the technology course in school when she went so that she could be more computer savvy. She stated that technology was all about classroom management and trusting the students. In conclusion, Louise is all about technology in the classroom. “When teaching science especially, it is nice to have such equipment such as telescopes and pupil cams so that the students can see what they need to find in their own,” Louise stated. Technology is a powerful and wonderful resource and it seems that Louise feels that way also.no comments yet.
